SATEL – Structural Analysis Tool for Explosion Loading

SATEL is a state-of-the-art explosion analysis tool which allows designers to quickly appraise the performance of structural members and panels under blast loading. Designers can easily carry out parametric studies to assess the effects of finite axial/rotational support restraint, different moment capacities at supports, damping, strain rate and catenary action on the response of structures that can be idealised as a single degree of freedom (SDOF) system.

SATEL is windows-based with easy-to-use graphical interface that guides you through the various steps in the analysis. Hover help messages and default values are provided for most of the parameters to help you in deciding upon appropriate values for your particular problem.

A comprehensive library of standard UK sections and carbon and stainless steel material grades are included in addition to user-defined sections and materials. SATEL carries out classification checks for all the standard UK sections and the user-defined corrugated profiles.

You can check both the generic and actual resistance-displacement curves using SATEL. The output results from the analysis can be viewed as:

  • a summary output page
  • time-history plots

SATEL allows you to save, print and export your time-history plots to EXCEL. In addition, normalised values of various parameters can be plotted on the same graph allowing for quick comparison of the variation of various parameters.
