Resilience against fire, blast and impact related threats to buildings and infrastructure are an essential consideration for sustainable urban environments. Rapid and increasingly dense urbanisation developing countries exacerbate the risk to societal harmony and cohesion from accidental or deliberately orchestrated fire and blast events. Continued reliance on fossil fuels for the foreseeable future and attendant dangers in their extraction and distribution creates significant additional potential for injury and environmental catastrophe near on and off-shore oil and gas installations. The potential for these hazards to be interdependent is significant therefore it makes sense for the scientific research and engineering communities working in this field to come together and learn best practice from each other.
The CONFAB conferences in 2015, 2017 and 2019 were aimed at providing such a forum. Experts from the fields of fire and blast hazards and those working in urban and industrial infrastructure came together in an informal and friendly atmosphere to present and discuss their latest research and seek fresh insights from their peers potentially sparking innovative ideas to solve challenging problems in their respective domains. In contrast to other conferences in these topics, CONFAB strives to remain single-session , with plenty of opportunities for discussion, networking and future -planning between researchers, academics and practitioners. Following the hiatus enforced by the pandemic, CONFAB 2024 aims to continue this mission. The organising committee welcomes interested researchers and practitioners in this field to consider submitting an abstract to this conference.
