Add to CalendarTITLE: | Application of Pipeline QRA Methodologies to Hydrogen Pipelines |
SPEAKER: | Nigel Curson, Penspen |
DURATION: | 1 hour (45 min + Q&A) |
TIME: | 13.00 to 14.00 (GMT) |
ABSTRACT: | Hydrogen will play an important role in the decarbonised future of energy. For hydrogen distribution, pipelines are seen the main method for mass transport. To support the evaluation of risk related to hydrogen pipelines, a QRA methodology is presented based on available industry accepted guidance related to natural gas. The QRA approach is principally taken from HSE UK’s MISHAP methodology. The methodology is reviewed, and modifications proposed to adapt it for use with hydrogen gas transport. Compared to natural gas, it was found that the escape distances for hydrogen (based on the degree of heat flux) were lower. Conversely, for the overall risk, both individual and societal, the case with hydrogen was more onerous. This was driven by the increased ignition probability of hydrogen. The approach may be used as part of the appraisal process of hydrogen projects. |
FABIG WEBINAR SERIES
We are pleased to confirm that we will continue to organise Lunchtime Webinars on a monthly basis in the long term. As such, we are always looking for interesting presentations for our Lunchtime Webinar Series, so please do not hesitate to contact us at fabig@steel-sci.com if you or one of your colleagues would like to present at a future FABIG Webinar.
