Lunchtime Webinar | Recent enhancements in predicting subsea dispersion of gas from blowouts and pipeline failure - Jan Erik Olsen, SINTEF
Add to CalendarTITLE: | Recent enhancements in predicting subsea dispersion of gas from blowouts and pipeline failure |
SPEAKER: | Jan Erik Olsen, SINTEF |
DURATION: | 1 hour (45 min + Q&A) |
TIME: | 13.00 to 14.00 (GMT) |
ABSTRACT: | A reliable estimate of the subsea dispersion of gas is required in order to assess risks in offshore operations during an ongoing or potential subsea gas release. Historically, this has been calculated via so-called integral models, but more recently, CFD has become a powerful tool for conducting such analyses. CFD models have been in development for about 20 years. They require accurate implementation of the governing physics. The last 10 years have seen a continued enhancement in model accuracy by implementing improved closures for turbulence, gas dissolution and more. This webinar will summarise these developments, discuss how the subsea model needs to communicate with the atmospheric model, and will provide some examples of release of natural gas and CO2. |
FABIG WEBINAR SERIES
We will be organising lunchtime webinars every two weeks whilst working life remains disrupted by measures to combat the COVID-19 epidemic. Such measures either prohibit or make inadvisable large meetings such as our Technical Meetings. We are still looking for presentations for our series of lunchtime Webinars and as such, please do not hesitate to contact us at fabig@steel-sci.com if you or one of your colleagues would like to give a presentation at one of the forthcoming FABIG Lunchtime Webinars.
