    This paper describes the findings of the CostFX Phase II Joint Industry Project, which involved large-scale hydrogen explosion experiments and investigated the occurrence of Deflagration-to-Detonation Transition (DDT) following ignition of hydrogen clouds within configurations of varying congestion and confinement. The project also evaluated the predictive performance of two Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tools against those experiments.
  • Digital image processing for the advanced characterization and simulation of experimental fire tests

    This paper introduces a novel methodology based on Digital Image Processing (DIP) for characterizing the fire engulfment of storage tanks in full-scale fire tests. The approach captures the flame coverage on the surface of the tank throughout the test and provides an accurate map of the flame distribution over time. It can support both the planning of fire tests and the interpretation of their results, as well as for the characterization of realistic fire scenarios to improve model validation and enhance the accuracy of real-fires simulations.
  • A comprehensive analysis of hydrogen refuelling station incidents: Unveiling contributing factors

    This paper presents a study examining 211 incidents that occurred at hydrogen refuelling stations in order to identify key contributing factors.
