Fire risk assessment and the design-case fire - A performance-based approach to fire protection and emergency response

FABIG Members: Log-in to access all FABIG resources

Speaker(s): David Black

Organisation(s): BakerRisk

Duration: 60 minutes

SUMMARY

This webinar discusses fire protection as an engineering problem, and poses methods and solutions that combine qualitative best practice knowledge with quantitative fire modelling, to provide a full picture of the fire protection and emergency response needs. All engineering solutions start with a reasonable and accurate definition of the problem to be solved. Fire protection and emergency response resourcing at the site level is often approached as “do whatever you can, with whatever you have available”. This approach misses the opportunity to treat fire as a definable problem for which the proper suite of solutions can be designed, to achieve the ultimate goal: keep the fire manageable and get it suppressed and extinguished as quickly and efficiently as possible, with minimal risk to responders or exposed personnel.
