SUMMARY
In the petrochemical industry, relatively recent incidents such as the Philips 66, BP Texas city and Longford explosions are often cited to raise awareness of process safety hazards. However, numerous lesser-known events have taken place at facilities around the world in the past decades, the stories of which are rarely told.
In this webinar, Jaco Nel shares his personal experience of an unconfined vapour cloud explosion at a petrochemical plant, which resulted in 10 fatalities and more than 300 injuries. The webinar covers topics such as the lead-up to the explosion, the event itself and damage observed, the impact on workers, families and the wider community, as well as the changes to organisational culture that followed this tragedy.
